Identity Theft in India: Aadhaar, PAN or Mobile Number Misuse Ho To Kya Karein?
Identity theft ka matlab broadly kisi person ki identifying information, credential or unique identification feature ka dishonest or unauthorised use ho sakta hai. Aadhaar, PAN, mobile number, email, passwords, account details or digital identity ka misuse loan fraud, SIM misuse, fake account, financial fraud or impersonation me appear ho sakta hai.
Identity theft ke warning signs
- Unknown loan or credit enquiry
- Unknown SIM or mobile connection
- Bank or payment alert jo aapne initiate nahi kiya
- Unknown social-media or email account
- Tax or financial communication about an unknown transaction
- Unknown KYC or account activity
Immediate steps
- Relevant bank, lender, telecom provider or platform ko inform karein.
- Unknown transaction ho to financial cyber fraud reporting consider karein.
- National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal par appropriate complaint register karein.
- Relevant account passwords and security settings review karein.
- Identity misuse ka documentary evidence preserve karein.
IT Act Section 66C ka role
Information Technology Act, 2000 ka Section 66C identity theft se related hai. Provision electronic signature, password or another unique identification feature of another person ke fraudulent or dishonest use ko address karta hai. Exact applicability facts and evidence par depend karti hai.
Online impersonation and cheating
Agar stolen identity ka use karke kisi person ko deceive karke money or property obtain ki gayi ho, IT Act Section 66D and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 ke cheating or personation provisions facts ke according relevant ho sakte hain.
